What Is Prolozone Therapy?
Prolozone™ therapy is an alternative, minimally invasive, nonsurgical treatment that may be used for all forms of musculoskeletal and joint pain. Prolozone is a technique that involves the injection of a combination of local anesthetic, anti-inflammatory medication (procaine), vitamins, minerals, and ozone gas. Prolozone Therapy is a form of regenerative reconstruction of the connective tissues, joints, tendons, ligaments, and muscles throughout the body.
How Does Prolozone Therapy Work?
When Prolozone is injected into the body, it reduces inflammation and pain, and increases the oxygen and healthy nutrients supply. In doing so, it invigorates the natural ability to heal and promotes tissue regeneration and rejuvenation.
Each one of the three components of Prolozone is crucial in the regeneration process.
The first component of Prolozone therapy is Procaine. It is a local anesthetic agent with anti-inflammatory and pain-reducing properties. By minimizing the swelling in the damaged area, it allows for improved blood circulation. The next element of Prolozone is a mixture of B vitamins (B3, B6, B9, B12), magnesium and trace minerals found in sterile sea water. In cases of acute musculoskeletal injuries, Traumeel (a homeopathic solution made of biological and mineral extracts) is also often administered. The final key ingredient of Prolozone is ozone gas. Ozone gas galvanizes the circulation of oxygen and vital nutrients to stimulate the healing process. In addition, O3 also evokes the synthesis of cells like fibroblasts and chondrocytes, which in turn trigger a reaction of tissue regeneration using the flow of nutrients available to them. The combination of these elements ensures proper oxygen and nutrients circulation and regeneration of the damaged connective tissues, tendons, joints, and muscles.
Which Conditions Can Prolozone Therapy Help With?
Prolozone therapy can be used to supplement conventional medicine for a broad spectrum of conditions such as:
- Arthritis in the joints
- Tennis elbow
- Heel spurs
- Rotator cuff injuries/Shoulder pain
- Trauma/Acute Injury
- Rheumatoid Arthritis
- Plantar Fasciitis
- Osteoarthritis
- Neck Pain
- Back Pain/Sciatica

How Many Sessions Are Needed?
Although many patients experience instantaneous relief after their first session, the number of treatments needed varies with each individual and the condition treated. A mild condition may require 1-3 treatments, a moderate condition may require 3-5 injections and a more severe condition requires more than 5 treatments. Generally, patients should see an improvement after a few visits to justify continued therapy. A typical session lasts for around 20-25 minutes, and it is normal for a follow-up visit to be set up for one-two week(s) after your initial appointment.
