WHAT IS GLUTATHIONE?
Glutathione (GSH for short) is an antioxidant formed in the liver from 3 amino acids: cysteine, glutamate, and glycine. This naturally-occurring tripeptide is found in almost every human cell with the main function to prevent cellular damage by getting rid of free radicals, heavy metals, carcinogens, and other toxins in the body. The damage inflicted by free radicals leads to numerous diseases, and cellular aging, and may play a role in the development of cancer. Glutathione plays an important role in the synthesis of proteins, DNA, and prostaglandin as well as in the broad spectrum of other biochemical and metabolic reactions in the human body. GSH also acts as a catalyst in the function of other antioxidants like Vitamin C and E and as a mediator of many other physiologic reactions, such as thiol-disulfide exchange reactions and cellular signaling.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF GLUTATHIONE IV THERAPY?
Although more research on the potential benefits of GSH is needed, many functional medicine doctors incorporate it into their practice and believe that the benefits of GSH IV therapy include:
- Help boost energy levels
- Promote healthy aging by neutralizing free radicals
- Prevent diseases and even cancer
- Detoxify organs and protect cells from toxins
- Protect kidneys from platinum buildup
- Aid in amino acid transport
- Reduce Inflammation
- Boost brain health
GSH deficiency is found in almost all ill patients with:
- Muscular degeneration
- Depression
- Chronic Fatigue
- Renal issues
- Fatty liver
- Autoimmune conditions
- Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s
- Autism
- Diabetes
- Heart disease and Atherosclerosis
- Stroke
- Cancer and/or undergoing chemotherapy
- Male infertility
- Chronic infections
- Arthritis, asthma, liver disease and more
- IBS
- Obesity
WHY DOES GLUTATHIONE NEED TO BE SUPPLEMENTED?
Chronically ill people normally have lower levels of glutathione. “The Super-Antioxidant” levels peak in the mid 20’s but then, due to stress, unhealthy diets, environmental factors, toxins, viruses, and pathogens, the amount of glutathione synthesized by the liver gradually decreases with age. At the time when your body needs it the most, your body is not producing enough of it. GSH supplementation, however, may offset these reduced levels. There are various forms of glutathione supplementation, such as via nebulizer, in oral form, injection, and IV drip. IV Therapy almost in most cases is the most effective method of administering the “mother of all oxidants”.
CAN I BOOST MY GSH LEVELS NATURALLY?
Short answer is yes. It can be boosted naturally to a degree if you:
- Exercise regularly
- Take supplements like
- Non-denatured protein (like Immunocal®)
- N-acetyl-cysteine
- Alpha lipoic acid
- B vitamin complex
- Increase consumption of
- Cruciferous vegetables
- Allium vegetables
